How to actually find a Black therapist or a Black doctor
Every one of these is a directory of named practitioners you can search by where you live. This is the part people give up on, and it is the part that has already been built.
Start with the directory, not the insurer
Therapy for Black Girls, Black Men Heal and the Association of Black Psychologists all publish searchable lists of practising clinicians. Searching by location gets you a shorter, better list than working outward from an insurance network.
Cost is the question to ask on the first call
Many clinicians hold a number of sliding-scale places that are never advertised, and Black Men Heal exists specifically to get Black men into treatment they are not paying full freight for. Asking is not an imposition; it is how the places get filled.
For physicians, the National Medical Association is the body
Founded in 1895, it is the oldest and largest organization representing Black physicians and their patients in the United States, and its work is the route to finding one near you.
A note on one directory we did not link
Therapy for Black Men was checked on 31 August 2026 and its site would not serve a page. That is not a judgment on the organization — sites lapse — but this room does not publish a link it could not open.
