James Henry Anderson started the Amsterdam News with $10 and six sheets of paper. From the Harlem Renaissance forward, the paper was the voice of Harlem — Adam Clayton Powell Jr., Malcolm X, James Baldwin: readers and subjects, both.
One of the oldest continuously-published Black newspapers in America. Still running. Still local. Still the record of a neighborhood that shaped a century.
